What Is Fe 550D TMT Bar? Fe 550D vs Fe 500D
Fe 550D TMT bars are thermo-mechanically treated reinforcement bars with a minimum yield strength of 550 N/mm². In the grade name, “Fe” stands for iron, “550” is the minimum yield strength in N/mm² (MPa), and “D” marks the ductile grade, which offers higher elongation and a better tensile-to-yield ratio for structures exposed to earthquakes, vibration and sudden loads. Compared with standard Fe 550 TMT bars, Fe 550D bars must also meet stricter ductility requirements under BIS.
Fe 550D has about 10% higher minimum yield strength than Fe 500D, which can reduce the quantity of steel needed where the structural design permits. UltraMax Fe 550D TMT bars are tested at 570 N/mm² yield strength and 20% elongation, above the BIS minimums.
